Only A Season
Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven."
Each season has it's own blessings, challenges, and endings. When my mother had her stroke, due to aphasia, she lost her ability to talk. She couldn't say much of anything including names or the words "I love you". Her season to speak those words had ended. Wonderfully, though, the positive and encouraging words, which my mother spoke often over the
years, are planted in my heart and mind.
Now it's my season.
We are each given a few seasons . . . the most important season being the one in which we respond to the Holy Spirit's tugs, and allow the amazing life-giving power of Jesus to extend through us. If we hesitate, however, just as my mother's voice vanished, so too may end the opportune moment for sharing that little smile, the much needed hug or simply a Christ-like attitude. Our words, actions, and attitudes are being planted in other peoples lives even now. So let's ask God to "establish the work of our hands" (Psalm 90:17 NIV) as we sow in this season.
Thank You Lord for the amazing life giving power You give us as we yield to the Holy Spirit's tugs on our hearts. Please give us an ever increasing desire to surrender our will for Yours and allow You to "establish the work of our hands". And we thank you, Father God, for the gift of life we've shared with those who have faithfully planted Your Truth in our lives through attitudes, actions, and words which have reflected Your face and that have drawn us into a fuller relationship with You. Amen
